Using the sorting tool in Excel

It is possible to have your data in alphabetical order or in any other specific order, by using the sorting tool. Choose the column in your sheet, go to Sort and Filter in the Home ribbon. For alphabetical sorting, select Sort from A to Z. If I choose “Continue with current selection”, only the column I selected will be sorted.

Excel detects that the first row contained heading labels. The column that I selected is now in alphabetical order and everything else in been sorted accordingly. If you need to set a custom criteria for sorting, navigate to the Sort and Filter menu and select Custom Sort.
