Use page breaks and section breaks in Microsoft Word

Page and section breaks enable you to manage the layout and flow of your document. For instance, to move text to the next page, typically some people would place the cursor and then hit Enter on the keyboard to move the text down to the next page.

But if you edit the document later, the spacing changes. Page and section breaks will produce significantly better results.

First place the cursor, then move to the layout toolbar and choose Page from the Breaks menu. Everything beyond the cursor is shifted to the next page, regardless of whether you change the text later.

Alternatively, instead of a page break, a section break can help you create a table of contents that can be used later in your document. In the break menu under Section Break, select the next page.

This will start a new section on a new page and is also great for starting a new chapter.
